This question is very useful for me to identify the students who may have the wrong concept of the conditions for the seed to germinate.

Seed usually requires air, water and warmth to germinate. In this question, the setup is placed in a dark cupboard. Students who think that light is a required condition for seed germination may choose Option (4). Without light, they think that the seed will die eventually. Though they may not be able to articulate their reason for the seed to have a specific height at Day 0, they have the concept of the seed dies as its height decreases to 0cm.

When time allows, it may usually be interesting to introduce the change of the axis name from “Height of the seedling” to “Mass of the seed(/seed leaves)” or “Mass of the seedling”, etc. The graphs will look different.
